Olympic Oval Known as the fastest ice in the world, the Olympic Oval was the first covered speed skating oval in North America and played host to long track events during the 1988 Olympic Winter Games. Located at the University of Calgary, the Olympic Oval is recognized as one of the world's premier training and competition venues boasting more than 150 world records set in long and short track speed skating during the past 20 years. National and World Cup speed skating competitons are hosted at the Oval every year.

Two decades after the 1988 Winter Olympics, the Olympic Oval is proud to look back on a track record of successes in high performance sport programs, public events and community support. Since hosting the XV Winter Games, the Olympic Oval has become the premier training facility for Canada's long track speed skating national team, which has won 16 Olympic medals in the past 20 years, more than any other sport in Canada.

The Olympic Oval has also been dedicated to serving the University of Calgary community and the public with access to public running and skating and by hosting annual special events.

The Oval is comprised of three ice surfaces - one 400m oval ice for long track speed skating and two international size rinks for hockey and short track. WinSport Canada continues to financially support the facility as part of the continuing legacy of the '88 Games.
