WinSport Canada provides world-class sport facilities where Canadian athletes can discover develop and excel. WinSport Canada owns and operates Canada Olympic Park, the Bill Warren Training Centre and the Beckie Scott High Performance Training Centre on Haig Glacier. A nonprofit organization, WinSport Canada supports national sport organizations, encourages educational opportunities and subsidizes the operation of unique training and recreational facilities used by the nation's top athletes and the general public.

There are currently more than 250 volunteers at Canada Olympic Park that participate in a wide variety of areas to promote winter sport and develop the athlete. Volunteers also have the opportunity to interact with the thousands of local, national and international visitors who visit the facilities throughout the year and play a significant role in the operation of the Park. If you have a passion for sport and our community, we are looking for you!

Assistant Pro - Ski Volunteer

The Assistant Pro - Ski is responsible for supporting the Recreation department's Ski School by providing assistance on the hill during lessons

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Assist with directing students to lesson locations 
  • Greet children as they arrive for the lessons
  • Entertain the class while they are waiting by facilitating simple games
  • Assist with organization of the class
  • Assist the instructor by accompanying the children on the lifts
  • Demonstrate the lesson on the request of the instructor
  • Assist with instilling a knowledge and respect for the Alpine Responsibility Code in the students
  • Act as a mentor, being responsible and demonstrating maturity at all times
  • Provide any additional assistance the instructor requests

The ideal candidate will: 

  • Be 14 years of age or older
  • The ability to work as part of a team with a high level of energy
  • Confident skier 
  • Experience with or an interest in working with children
  • Ability to take direction
  • Leadership skills

Rental Shop Assistant Volunteer

Rental shop assistant volunteers are responsible for supporting the Guest Services department through the provision of assistance in the rental shop.

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Greet guests as they enter the Rental Shop and direct them to the correct location
  • Assist with fitting and distributing equipment to guests 
  • Restock equipment when it is returned
  • Direct traffic at the Rental Shop exit or entrance
  • Provide guests with information on WinSport Canada , Canada Olympic Park and the services available
  • Additional projects related to the Rental Shop as assigned
  • Attend orientations, training and meetings as required

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be 14 years of age or older 
  • The ability to work as part of a team with a high level of concentration 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated maturity 
  • Strong customer service skills 
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with skiing or snowboarding

Junior Ski Patrol Volunteer

The Junior Ski Patrol volunteer program (JPP) is an opportunity for student volunteers to become members of the COP ski patrol and assist the patrol in providing service to the skiing public through safety education, on-hill rescue and medical first response.  Based on other successful programs across North America, it aims to engage youth through the provision of practical skills training, ski improvement clinics and leadership and teamwork opportunities in an outdoor environment.  Participants will gain valuable career experience in positions of responsibility, complete a formal certification program and be mentored by senior members of the patrol. 

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Assist professional ski patrollers in their duties under direct supervision
  • Talk to guests and find out how they are enjoying their experience 
  • Report any dangerous behavior or rules violation to the patrol or security 
  • Provide guests with information on WinSport Canada, Canada Olympic Park and the services available 
  • Attend orientations, training and meetings as required

The ideal candidate will:

  • Youth aged 15-18 years of age
  • Have a strong work ethic 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated maturity 
  • Be a confident snowboarder or skier 
  • Be familiar with the COP ski hill facilities
  • Have proven leadership and responsibility
  • Appreciation of safety regulations

Greet & Guide Volunteer

The Greet and Guide volunteer is responsible for supporting the Guest Services department by providing directions and information to guests in the Frank King Olympic Visitors Centre.

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Greet guests as they enter the building or if outside, as they approach the building 
  • Approach guests who may appear to be lost and ask if they require assistance 
  • Approach guests waiting in the lines to ensure they are in the correct line 
  • Greet and chat with guests as they are waiting in line 
  • Answer any questions guests may have about the lines, events occurring that day, lessons, and the park in general 
  • Ensure guests are not entering the Rental Shop through the exit

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be 16 years of age or older 
  • The ability to work independently with a high level of energy and enthusiasm 
  • Strong problem solving skills 
  • Be outgoing and approach guests 
  • Having knowledge of the Ski and Snowboard School and the Park is an asset

Snow Friend Volunteer

Snow Friend volunteers are responsible for supporting the Recreation department's Ski and Snowboard School and Lift Operations department through the provision of assistance on the hill.

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Assume the lead in providing crowd control and instruction on how to use the lifts to guests as they wait in line 
  • Greet and chat with guests while they are waiting to use the lifts 
  • Answer any questions guests may have about the lifts, the park, and the sport 
  • Contact dispatch to arrange support for guests experiencing difficulty navigating the hill 
  • Monitor the Silver Carpet, Eastside Runner and the Legacy Chair Lift in addition to the assigned lift, assisting as needed 
  • Take runs down the hill looking for and reporting to dispatch safety concerns 
  • Provide assistance to Ski and Snowboard School during the weekdays
    by assisting the Instructors with organizing the children for lessons and riding the chair lifts with the students 
  • Refrain from providing instruction or teaching guests snowboard or skiing related skills 
  • Refrain from repairing or adjusting the equipment of guests

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be 18 years of age or older 
  • Have a strong work ethic and able to stay motivated while working as part of a team or independently 
  • Excellent customer service skills 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with demonstrated maturity 
  • Be a confident skier or snowboarder 
  • Knowledge of lift operations and safety protocols of the hill are considered an asset 
  • Completion of Standard First Aid training an asset

  • The Special Events Volunteer is responsible for supporting a variety of WinSport Canada departments by providing assistance during designated sport and special events that occur at Canada Olympic Park.

Canadian Ski Patrol System - Year Round Opportunity

The Canadian Ski Patrol System (CSPS) is a national organization comprised of highly-trained volunteer and professional members, who provide safety and rescue services to many ski resorts across Canada throughout the winter operational months. The System provides first aid at many resorts, such as Canada Olympic Park and various community events outside of the ski environment. Hill Patrol - Year-Round Opportunity

Hill Patrol is a partnership program between Canada Olympic Park and the City of Calgary Police Service. The volunteer Hill Patrol covers a wide variety of duties and helps ensure safety on the ski hill, in the mountain bike park and during special events. This Patrol is comprised of off-duty serving or retired members of an Alberta policing agency who enjoy skiing or snowboarding. Volunteers are recruited directly through the policing agencies.
