Bob Niven Training Centre LogoThe Bob Niven Training Centre (BNTC) was named in recognition of the outstanding volunteer contribution of Bob Niven to the XV Olympic Winter Games. Bob Niven was WinSport Canada’s chairman from 1983 to 1986, Olympiques Calgary Olympics ’88 vice-chairman from 1981 to 1988, and mayor for the University of Calgary Olympic Village in 1988.

In 2006, the BNTC became an athlete-only facility to ensure Olympic and development athletes had unrestricted access to all training facilities in the Centre. Substantial upgrades to the training facilities and equipment will assist Canadian athletes to reach their highest potential, looking towards 2010 and beyond.

Amenities in the BNTC include:
  • Multi-level Olympic-class weight rooms
  • Cardio equipment
  • Free weight areas
  • Regeneration room with whirlpool and cold therapy tubs
  • Mid-sized gymnasium suited to host a number of sport activities including volleyball, indoor soccer, basketball, badminton and floor hockey.
  • Athlete Services for massage therapy, chiropractic, physio therapy, psychology and meeting rooms for audio/visual instruction are also available.
The Bob Niven Training Centre is an ideal location to host coaching clinics, seminars and training camps, while focusing on the development of the complete athlete - both mentally and physically.

The facility also houses the administration offices for Canadian Snowboard Federation, Alpine Canada Alpin, Biathlon Alberta, Alberta Bobsleigh, Alberta Luge, Alberta Snowboard Association, Canada Luge Association, Bobsleigh Canada Skeleton, Calgary Sport Council and the Canadian Sport Centre - Calgary satellite office.
