  Security Officer

 We are currently looking for a security officer to ensure a safe, coordinated and efficient operation of Canada Olympic Park. The security officer will be pro-active in all matters of Park safety, security, emergency response, preventative maintenance, public relations and general Park maintenance.

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Ensuring the safety and security of all guest at the Park
  • Responding to any emergency situation as needed
  • Liaising with various City of Calgary Departments and officials including: Calgary Police Service, Emergency Medical Services, and the Calgary Fire Department
  • Assisting with the coordination of special events
  • Providing general assistance to park visitors and maintain knowledge on "what is happening" in all areas of the park.
  • Assisting security manager with any necessary duties


The ideal candidate will have:

  • Mature, friendly, customer service orientated with excellent communication (written and oral) skills

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving abstract

  Truck Driver

WinSport Canada and Canada Olympic Park will be hosting multiple World Cup competitions this sliding season and we are looking for a dedicated, hard working Truck Driver to help our athletes train and compete at our world class facility. The Truck Driver will become a vital member of our team closely interacting with competitive bobsled participants returning to the top of the run.

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Driving bobsleigh, luge and skeleton athletes to the start after runs are completed

The ideal candidate will be available for a variety of shift times and hours based around training and competition schedules. He/she will have:

  Control Tower Operator

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Control entrance and exit of the Track through public address and closed circuit TV systems
  • Monitor and direct communications between Track Crew and user groups using public address, two-way radio, telephone and intercom systems
  • Administrative support for the day-to-day sport department and Bob Niven Training Centre including distribution of incoming and outgoing mail and faxes.

  Venue Maintenance Crew, Track

  • Maintaining ice surfaces and ice house tracks

  • Ensuring track is free of debris
  • Track preparation for competitions

  • Experience working in a manual labour position

  Team Lead, Food and Beverage (Catering)

We are currently looking for an innovative individual to motivate and lead our dynamic food and beverage team.  The successful individual will be a person who is energized by the challenges of working in a fast paced environment while exceeding the expectations of every guest.  As a key member of the Food and Beverage Team, the individual will be involved in administration, and will liaise with other professionals in various departments.  

 Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Develops the schedules of all staffing requirements for catering events
  • Receives and inventories all alcohol for COP
  • Liaises with the Executive Chef to ensure the food  production for all banquet functions
  • Liaises with Sales Associates to ensure all function schedule requirements are up-to-date
  • Ensures all original Catering sheets are checked and forwarded to Food and Beverage Administrative Assistant for invoicing

The ideal candidate will poses a minimum diploma or certificate in managment or hospitality industry, along with a minimum of three years of supervisory experience in the Food & Beverage industry.  This individual will have the ability to set personal standards within the guidelines of company policies, goals, and budgets under the direction of the Manager of Food & Beverage.

  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office functions

  Apprentice Heavy Duty Mechanic

We are currently looking for an apprentice heavy duty mechanic to join our team. The apprentice will be responsible for maintaining a full fleet of trucks, heavy equipment, lawn care equipment and snow grooming vehicles that are critical in the daily operations of the organization.

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Maintaining all WinSport Canada's vehicles in good running order, including service work as required such as oil changes, tune-ups and brake servicing.
  • Maintaining accurate service records for all vehicles.
  • Assisting with the regular servicing of snow grooming equipment.
  • Servicing all small engine vehicles.
  • Maintaining all tools and other equipment; and conducting minor fabricating and welding.

The ideal candidate will be a heavy duty or automotive mechanic apprentice and have:

  • Strong knowledge of hydrostatic drive and hydraulic controls, small two-stroke and four-stroke engine experience and automotive fleet maintenance experience will be required.
  • Experience maintaining snow grooming experience would be considered an asset.
  • The individual will also be a strong team player who can work under minimal supervision and has strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  Senior Ice Maintenance Technician

This position is responsible for the ice making maintenance and operation in the Athletic Ice Complex. The Senior Arena Maintenance Technician leads the ice maintenance team, as well as, general building and grounds maintenance while liaising with the venues department and custodial department.

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Ice resurfacing operations and equipment maintenance
  • Ice installation and removal
  • Provide leadership and direction while supervising and scheduling the arena maintenance team
  • Facility maintenance including a variety of tasks such as cleaning dressing rooms, stands and lobby, and bathrooms replenishing as needed, as well as, wash and wax floors as required and the exterior maintenance of sidewalks, parking lot, and grounds
  • Assist in facility booking and BMS
  • Answer inquiries and complaints from the general public by telephone or in person
  • Work in coordination with events team for tournaments and special events
  • Work in coordination with the plant operators to ensure consistency in ice making operations
  • Work in coordination with the custodial department for replenishing of cleaning supplies and materials

Qualified candidates will have completed education in a Recreation Facility Management Program with related experience. Equivalencies in education or experience will be considered. Candidates should also demonstrate the following:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in arena operations of a multi pad facility
  • Demonstrated experience and working knowledge of arena and refrigeration
  • Arena Level II or Equivalent Provincial Ticket
  • Valid First Aid, CPR / AED and WHMIS training
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively and professional, both written and oral; able to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships with tenants, internal staff,. Contractors, supplies and the public
  • Time management skills with an ability to work in an environment with changing priorities
  • Able to develop new ideas with a focus on best practices

  Facillity Maintenance Technician

This position provides support in the day-to-day operation of a fully integrated maintenance program to ensure all buildings on site at Canada Olympic Park are in good condition and repairs are dealt with in a timely manner.

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:
• Ensure safety codes and applicable regulations are followed
• Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures
• Routinely inspect interior and exterior spaces and equipment on site at Canada Olympic Park
• Monitor performance of heating, electrical, mechanical and troubleshoot problems
• Assist and perform routine repairs on all heating, cooling, and ventilation systems, plumbing systems, electrical systems and appliances
• Perform routine repairs and maintenance on all buildings
• Report any problems regarding equipment and buildings to supervisor
• Troubleshoot and take corrective action to prevent equipment or system failures
• Isolate and lock out equipment mechanically and electrically for inspection and repair
• Ensure that equipment and processes operate at maximum efficiency

The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have the ability to multi-task. He/she have a 4th Class Power Engineer as well as the following:
• Minimum of 2 years experience in facility/building maintenance
• Demonstrated experience in carpentry
• Demonstrated experience with electrical work
• Strong ability to communicate effectively and professional, both written and oral; able to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships with tenants, internal staff,. Contractors, supplies and the public
• Time management skills with an ability to work in an environment with changing priorities

  Freestyle Ski and Mogul Coach

We are currently looking for two Freestyle Ski Coachs to oversee our B TEAM program and the MOGUL operations of the club.

The B TEAM performance coach will be responsible for:

  • Developing, researching, executing training and competitions for our group of athletes at the Provincial and National Level
  • Running the training program which must include dryland programs, on snow training in the park, pipe and mogul discipline
  • Planning travel budgets and organize parent groups for away trips
  • Planning specialized camps during holidays and preseason

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum level II CSIA, CFSA moguls, air, park and pipe, any international level II certification
  • Previous coaching experience in moguls, half pipe and table top

The FREESTYLE MOGUL coach will be responsible for:

  • The oversight of coaches and athletes training on mogul training facilities
  • Preparing coaches and athletes to compete in Mogul competitions

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum Level I CSIA and CFSA Level II Moguls
  • Experience in Mogul competitions as an athlete
  • Experience coaching athletes in Freestyle programs

Both coaching positions are temporary running from November 2010 through to March 2011.
Candidates will be required to work close to full time hours which include evenings and weekends.

The Supervisor, Facility and Plant Maintenance is responsible for managing the operations and maintenance of the refrigeration and snowmaking plants at Canada Olympic Park. This role will also include managing the operations and maintenance of the new refrigeration plant for the Athletic Ice Complex, planned to open December 15, 2010. The Supervisor, Facility and Plant Maintenance will play a critical role in the guidance, development and leadership of staff and volunteers at WinSport Canada.

Responsibilities could include, but will not be limited to:

  • Hire, train, and supervise facility and plant maintenance team members (including building maintenance and electricians)
  • Develop a workplace that promotes teamwork, quality and safety
  • Plan, delegate, and monitor progress on work assignments and special projects
  • Operate and maintain all equipment in plant (refrigeration, snowmaking, water supply systems, and all other machinery) including keeping records for maintenance and operation
  • Monitor bob/luge track for optimum ice conditions, making required adjustments in the plant and A.F.R.'s on track line.
  • Maintain and communicate with snow and ice making personnel for efficient and effective production
  • Manage building maintenance for the buildings at COP.
  • Manage electrical maintenance for COP.
  • Respond to trouble calls in any above areas
  • Ensure all hazards and problem or improvement areas are addressed and reported to Director, Venues
  • Perform other duties when required
  • Required to be in the rotation for 24-hour "on-call" status for park wide problems.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have the ability to multi-task. He/she will have a degree, diploma or ticket in a related discipline as well as the following:

  • A trade background in refrigeration or millwright or power engineer is an asset.
  • Proven ability to lead and direct teams
  • Minimum 3-5 years of refrigeration experience including operate and maintain all equipment in plant (refrigeration, snowmaking, water supply systems, and all other machinery) including keeping records for maintenance and operation
  • Strong business acumen

The physical demands of this position are:

  • The job is frequently expected to lift, carry, push or pull objects weighing more than 20 lbs. (without the assistance of mobile, powered equipment).
  • Physical effort requiring manual dexterity is frequently required (i.e., between 25% and 75% of time on the job).
  • Physical work pace and/or exertion brings on a limited amount of physical fatigue.

Were you born a supervisor or did you have to earn the title?
“I actually started out as a lifty, helping people on and off the lifts. Since then, I’ve worked my way up to supervisor. I’m proof that there’s a lot of room to grow within the company.”  

It must get pretty lonely up at the ski jump towers. How do you keep yourself busy?
“There never seems to be a dull moment in my job. There’s always something exciting going on at the top of the hill. No two days are ever the same!”

The ski jump towers are only open during the winter, right?
“We actually operate year-round. Six out of our seven jumps are open during the summer months for training purposes.”
