Learn To Skate Ages 2 - 5

Age 2 - 5
This unique introductory program lets parents onto the ice so they can help their child become comfortable and have fun. Our skating instructors teach basic skating skills to help your child improve their balance so they can walk in skates. It also offers tips for parents on how to help your little one discover and enjoy a new winter sport. A confident skating adult must be present and are required to have skates and CSA approved helmet. All lessons are 30 minutes.

Preschool Level 1

Ages 3 - 5
This program is for children who have never been on the ice before or have trouble standing on their own. Our instructors use games and fun activities to build confidence and teach basic skills such as falling down and getting up, balance and walking in skates. All lessons are 30 minutes.

Preschool Level 2

Ages 3 - 5
This program is designed for preschoolers who are comfortable moving around the ice on their own and are ready to continue developing forward skating skills such as gliding and turning. Skaters also begin learning how to stop and move backwards. Instructors maintain the fun spirit of Preschool Level 1, but will challenge skaters appropriately based on their skill and experience. All lessons are 30 minutes.
Key Goals
● Develop forward skating skills such as gliding & turning
● Introduce backwards skating
Prerequisites
● Successfully completed Parent & Tot or Preschool Level 1.
● Able to walk forwards on the ice and can fall down and get up without any assistance.

Preschool Level 3

Ages 3 - 5
This program is for the advanced preschool skater and focuses on improving forward and backward skating as well as stopping and turning. All lessons are 30 minutes.
Key Goals
● Improve backwards & forwards skating
● Work on stopping & turning

● Successfully completed Preschool Level 2.
● Able to skate forwards with speed, stop forwards and walk backwards.

Learn To Skate Ages 6 - 12

Level 1

This program is for those looking to skate for the first time. Our instructors will help skaters get more comfortable on the ice through teaching skills on how to improve balance, walk and march, fall down and get back up, jump and turn. All lessons are one hour.

Level 2

This program is for skaters who can move around the ice on their own and are ready to learn new skills such as gliding on one and two feet, forward sculling, walking backwards and stopping. Skaters will start to work on striding and developing their edges. All lessons are one hour.

● Increase balance and stability
● Build confidence and control when skating forwards
● Introduce stopping and turning

Prerequisites
● Successfully completed Preschool Level 3, or Youth Level 1.
● Beginning to stride forwards and can fall down and get up without any assistance.

Level 3

This program focuses on edge development and stopping. Instructors also introduce backwards skating skills, including gliding, sculling, stopping, and switching between forwards and backwards. All lessons are one hour.
Key Goals
● Increase one foot balance
● Build confidence and control when skating backwards
● Introduce stopping backwards

Prerequisites
● Successfully completed Youth Level 2.
● Able to skate forwards, stop forwards and walk backwards.

Level 4

This program introduces skaters to walking crosscuts, developing edges on one-foot, and two-foot parallel hockey stops. All lessons are one hour.
Key Goals
● Introduce forwards inside and outside edges
● Introduce Crosscuts
● Build confidence stopping and learn to side stop

Prerequisites
● Successfully completed Youth Level 3.
● Able to skate and stop both forwards and backwards.
● Able to turn from forwards to backwards.

Level 5

This program helps skaters continue to develop forward and backwards crosscuts and pivot turns. All lessons are one hour.
Key Goals
● Increase speed and power to forwards skating
● Develop one foot turns
● Continued edge and crosscut development

Prerequisites
● Successfully completed Youth Level 4.
● Able to turn from forwards to backwards on one foot.

Level 6

This program focuses on improving speed and developing forward and backward edges including crosscuts. All lessons are one hour.
Key Goals
● Increase speed and power to both forwards and backwards skating
● Develop backwards crosscuts
● Combine turning into a sequence

Teen Learn To Skate Ages 13 - 17

This program is designed for teens who have never been on skates before to those looking to take their skating skills to the next level. Private Lessons - Ages 2+

Looking to get ahead of the game or to get extra one-on-one instruction to really improve your skills? Look no further than WinSport Private Lessons. Whether it is learning to skate, power skating, figure skating or hockey skills sessions, you'll be matched with one of our qualified instructors who will teach and challenge you at exactly the right pace for you. Lessons can be booked in either 30 minute or 45 minute sessions.

We can also arrange lessons with a specific instructor of your choice. Please call Guest Services with the instructor's name, and they will be happy to try and match you with your desired instructor.
