Ski PD Day Camps - Ages 6-12
PD Day Camps provide new and avid skiers the chance to get outside and practice their skills. Hot lunch is included in the cost of camp and before and after care is available starting at 7:30 a.m. and running until 5:30 p.m. PD Day Camps are available throughout the school year and week-long camps are available over Spring Break by booking a camp each day of the week.

Level 1

Skiing related games are used to provide a fun and active introduction to skiing with the hope of building a lifelong love of the sport. Level 1 may be repeated multiple times to help build a solid foundation for a long skiing future.
Key Goals
  • Make complete stops
  • Complete turns of varying size on green terrain


Prerequisites
  • No previous skiing experience required

Level 2

This is a great program for children who are ready to start skiing a little bit faster and try some new terrain. Level 2 may be repeated multiple times to help build a solid foundation for a long skiing future. Developing balance is key, so any additional time spent on skis – before and after programs – will speed up the learning process.
Key Goals
  • Comfortably link turns around obstacles
  • Varying the size and speed of turns
  • Developing balance while on skis

Prerequisites
  • Successfully completed Level 1 or have the ability to complete all key goals outlined in Level 1
  • Able to:
    • Come to a complete stop using a snow plow (pizza shape)
    • Complete turns on green terrain

Level 3

Level 3 is a fast moving group for children ready to start skiing faster on steeper terrain, while trying to keep skis parallel as much as possible. This course progresses from beginner to intermediate terrain with the opportunity for features such as small jumps, rollers, bumps and the 12-foot halfpipe to be introduced.
Key Goals
  • Comfortably ski from top to bottom while carrying out various skill drills, such as skiing on one ski
  • Skiing with parallel skis

Prerequisites
  • Successfully completed Level 2 or have the ability to complete all key goals outlined in Level 2
  • Able to:
    • Control speed and direction on green terrain
    • Start using the chairlift

Level 4

This program focuses on furthering the technique of strong skiers who are ready to ski hard and fast on a variety of terrain. The goal is to develop strong, well-rounded skiers who feel comfortable attempting any sort of terrain. Features such as small jumps, rollers, bumps, and the 12-foot halfpipe may also be introduced.
Key Goals
  • Introduce refined edge control and carving
  • Instil skills and confidence to attempt any terrain

Prerequisites
  • Successfully completed Level 3 or have the ability to complete all key goals outlined in Level 3
  • Able to:
    • Ski with parallel skis on most terrain
    • Vary turn shape on steeper terrain
      Confidently try new and challenging terrain

Level 2

Skills progression continues as we practice and build on Level 1 skills. Level 2 may be repeated multiple times to ensure competency in core skill areas and help build a solid foundation for a long snowboarding future.   • Complete turns on heel and toe sides
  • Show a strong, athletic position on board

Prerequisites
  • Successfully completed Level 1 or have the ability to complete all key goals outlined in Level 1
  • Have been introduced to changing direction
  • Able to:
    • Move around on board with one foot strapped in
    • Stop on toe and heel edge

Level 3

Level 3 is a fast moving group for children ready to start riding faster on steeper terrain, while refining their edge control. This course progresses from beginner to intermediate terrain by way of the chairlift, with the opportunity for features such as small jumps, rollers, bumps and the 12-foot halfpipe to be introduced.
Key Goals
  • Comfortably ride from top to bottom while carrying out various skill drills, such as carved traverses
  • Continuously link toe and heel side turns of varying size

Prerequisites
  • Successfully completed Level 2 or have the ability to complete all key goals outlined in Level 2
  • Able to:
    • Control speed and direction on green terrain
    • Start using the chairlift

Initiation PD Day Hockey Camp

Our Initiation Hockey Camps are a great way for first and second year players to improve their skills through multi-sport activities. Campers are on the ice twice a day and participate in a number of off-ice activities, which may include ice luge, COR.FIT, trampolines, dryland training, Lacrosse, floorball, and Tchoukball.

Goalies – please contact Skate & Hockey School at skate@winsport.ca  or 403-247-5616 to register.
Goalies receive a 20% discount on their registration.

Key Goals
  • Introduce basic hockey skills, including skating, puck control, passing and shooting

Prerequisites
  • Child must be comfortable skating without a parent and be able to stand and skate forward in a controlled manner
Camp time
  • 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Lunch
  • Lunch included in camp cost.

This program is a fun introduction to all aspects of cycling. Children practice in a progressive learners area where they explore and learn with a friendly  group of like-minded kids.

  • General introduction to biking
  • Learn correct body position and braking technique to improve control while riding

This program is for kids who are comfortable riding on pavement and roads and are now looking to be challenged on grass and dirt! Kids will be introduced to all aspects of mountain biking including cross-country, enduro and downhill.
Key Goals
  • Begin learning to ride on grass and dirt
  • Understand how to change gears
  • Introduction to cross-country, enduro and downhill mountain biking

Prerequisites
Successful completion of Level 1 and / or is capable of the following:
  • Comfortable riding on pavement and roads
  • Able to ride straight down a gentle hill while controlling speed with hand brakes
Cost

This program is for kids who are able to control their speed and are ready for a new challenge on green terrain.
Key Goals
  • Continue developing skills in cross country, enduro and downhill mountain biking

Prerequisites
Successful completion of Level 2 and / or is capable of the following:
  • Comfortable riding in gentle, off-road conditions
  • Able to handle small obstacles such as rocks, roots and bridges
  • Able to fully control speed

This program is for kids ready to develop a more aggressive riding technique on blue terrain.
Key Goals
  • Develop aggressive riding technique
  • Develop skill-based manoeuvres including front/rear wheel lifts, bunny hops, drops and jumps
  • Continue developing skills in cross-country, enduro and downhill mountain biking


Prerequisites
Successful completion of Level 3 and / or is capable of the following:
  • Confident riding on challenging off-road terrain at higher speeds
  • Able to remain in full control of speed
  • Open to new challenges on blue terrain
