WinSport Ski Lessons - Learn More
WinSport Snow School is the largest in Canada and offers close proximity to the city, short and frequent lesson, five magic carpets and progressive terrain making it the ideal place to learn. We put 35,000 people on snow every year and you can be next!

Now that you have developed basic skills and have moved past level 1, continue to build your abilities by selecting your progressive level.

To complement our existing five week and PD day programming we have added intense 2-3-day sessions and season long opportunities. Choose the option that fits best for you.

Level 2

Skiing-related games are used to help participants who have limited experience on skis, but are ready to take the next step towards independent skiing and want to continue developing key skills. Before moving to the next level, it is important that all participants show competency in the key goal areas.

Key Goals
  • Make a complete stop while facing straight down a gentle hill
  • Make small turns around obstacles
  • Ski unassisted from the top of the Gold carpet

Prerequisites
  • Successfully completed Level 1 or have the ability to complete all key goals outlined in Level 1
  • Able to:
    • Walk independently on skis
    • Ski comfortably straight down a gentle slope
    • Attempt a snow plow (pizza shape) with skis

Level 3

Fundamental skill development continues for those skiers who are able to ski with control on green terrain and are ready to be pushed to the next level. This may include building to higher speeds and progressing onto the chairlift, as group ability allows.

  • Ready to attempt the chairlift with instructor assistance

  • Successfully completed Level 2 or have the ability to complete all key goals outlined in Level 2

    • Control speed at all times
    • Get up on their own after falling over

Level 4

Skills progression continues as participants who are ready to move from warm-ups and drills on the Gold and Progression carpet to the chairlift for experience skiing at higher speeds and on a variety of terrain such as rollers, bumps, berms and off-camber terrain.

  • Control speed on a wide range of terrain
  • Build comfort at higher speeds and on variable terrain
  • Ski completely unassisted from top to bottom

Prerequisites
  • Successfully completed Level 3 or have the ability to complete all key goals outlined in Level 3
  • Experience skiing on runs from the top of the chairlift
  • Able to:
    • Make turns of varying size to control speed, without instructor assistance

Level 5

Level 5 bridges the gap between our Level 4 and our All Mountain ski programs. Participants must be confident skiing all terrain at WinSport and be looking to fine tune their skills in an age and developmentally appropriate setting.
Key Goals
  • Ski with parallel skis on all terrain
  • Use edges to maintain/increase speed
  • Remain stable when skiing on variable terrain

Prerequisites
  • Successfully completed Level 4 or have the ability to complete all key goals outlined in Level 4
  • Able to:
    • Confidently ski from the top of the ’88 chair at WinSport completely unassisted
    • Ski with parallel skis on most terrain
    • Remain in control at intermediate/advanced speeds
    • Ski variable terrain at mountain resorts

Learn More Ages 6 - 12

Next Step Ski

This lesson is for those who have recently completed a Discover Lesson or are still within the beginner stages of learning. If you have a basic understanding of moving on your skis but need more confidence and practice, the Next Step Lesson is the right place for you. This single 90-minute lesson includes a lift ticket and rentals.
Key Goals
  • Confidently come to a complete stop on green/blue grade terrain
  • Large radius snow plough turns on green/blue terrain


Prerequisites
  • Recent completion of a Discover Lesson or previous experience on beginner terrain

Level 2

This is a great program for children who are ready to start skiing a little bit faster and try some new terrain. Level 2 may be repeated multiple times to help build a solid foundation for a long skiing future. Developing balance is key, so any additional time spent on skis – before and after programs – will speed up the learning process.

Level 3

Level 3 is a fast moving group for children ready to start skiing faster on steeper terrain, while trying to keep skis parallel as much as possible. This course progresses from beginner to intermediate terrain with the opportunity for features such as small jumps, rollers, bumps and the 12-foot halfpipe to be introduced.

Level 3

This program introduces more advanced manoeuvres into your skiing, such as skiing with parallel skis at all times and carving. Features such as small jumps, bumps and rollers may also be introduced, depending on the interests of the group.

Level 4

  • Learn how to tackle variable terrain at higher speeds

Learn More Women Only Ages 18+
Ski Cellar Snowboard

WinSport is proud to support Women’s programs and encourages women of all ages to come learn to ski or snowboard this winter or to progress your skills in the next level. Ski Cellar Snowboard, a local Calgary retailer for more than 70 years has partnered with WinSport for the last 20 years to grow interest in skiing and snowboarding, bring more people to snow and welcome women to try the sport, stay engaged and keep their families active all winter long. As part of our women’s only programs, you’ll be in a group of like-minded women in a non-intimidating setting to help you learn and you will have the opportunity to hear about the latest technology in equipment that is best suited to women to keep you comfortable on the hill.

On the second night of your program, join us for a short presentation from Ski Cellar Snowboard about topics in the industry relevant to women, women’s equipment and fit, prizes, hot chocolate and an opportunity to visit the mountains this winter!

Level 2
